Betel Nut (Bing lan)

Betel nut is grown and chewed throughout Southeast Asia. In Hainan many people chew betel nut for it's mild stimulant effect. The juice of the betel nut stains peoples' teeth and lips bright red. One ethnic Li woman told us that chewing the binglan is good for the teeth and digestion.
